SportClimb Analytics

Privacy policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

This policy covers the website sportclimbanalytics.com, the SportClimb phone app and the Garmin apps Sport Climb Tracker, Sport Climb Tracker Lite and Sport Climb Widget.

Who we are

SportClimb Analytics is a project by Martijn Bos in the Netherlands. He is responsible for processing your data. Questions or requests about your data: info@sportclimbanalytics.com.

In short

What data we process, and why

Your account

Your email address, your password (only as an irreversible hash, never readable), your language and preferences (such as your grading system), when your account was created and when you last signed in, and whether you have Pro. We need this to sign you in, show your data and send you emails (such as the confirmation link).

Now and then I may email you personally, for example to ask whether you like the app, to ask for a review or to tell you what's new. Such an email may contain a personal link to close your account; that only happens if you confirm it on the page itself. If you don't want these emails anymore, just reply to the email.

Your climbing data

Per session: date and time, duration, location type, where you climbed (name and GPS position) and the name of your watch. Per route: grade, result, mode, wall style, height and, if you enter them, details such as sector, line, colour and route name. Also the climbing locations you save yourself. You provide this yourself through your watch, your phone or Garmin Connect; we use it to show your statistics.

Heart rate

Your average and maximum heart rate per session and per route, if your watch measures it. Heart rate can count as health data. We only process it because you choose to connect your watch or Garmin Connect, and only to show you your own statistics. You withdraw this consent by disconnecting and deleting your sessions or your account.

Garmin Connect (if you connect it)

We use your Garmin password only once to sign in; we never store it. After that we only keep the sign-in keys Garmin returns, protected on the server. With them we fetch your climbing activities: we go through your activity list, keep only climbing activities and read the FIT file of each climbing session without storing the file itself. If you disconnect Garmin, we delete the keys.

Your watch and the phone app

If you pair a watch, we store the pairing code, which app it is and when it last sent something. The watch sends your sessions through the Garmin Connect app on your phone. The watch apps also keep your recent routes and settings on the watch itself. If you allow notifications in the phone app, we store a notification ID for your device (through Google Firebase) to send you those notifications.

Payments and donations

If you pay for Pro or donate through Ko-fi, Ko-fi sends us your email address, the amount and a transaction number, so we can link Pro to your account. We keep the product, amount, date and transaction reference for our accounts. If you pay through a bunq or Revolut link, you pay that bank directly and we receive no data about the payment. We never see your payment details (such as your account or card).

Feedback

Your message, a name if you enter one, and your account if you are signed in. Feedback we pick up may appear on the public list of plans, with the name you entered. If you don't want that, leave the name field empty.

Site portal for climbing gyms

If you manage a gym in /site-manager, we store your role per gym, the note you add to a request, invitations, and who made which import or change.

Security and abuse

When you sign in, register or send feedback, we temporarily record your IP address in the server logs, to prevent abuse (such as password guessing) and to find errors. We do this based on our legitimate interest in a secure service.

Legal bases

What others see about you

Services from others

We use a few services that process data for us, each only for its own task:

Some of these services may process data outside the European Union. They do so based on a decision by the European Commission that the country offers adequate protection, or with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Cookies and storage in your browser

We use one cookie, to keep you signed in (at most 90 days). There are no tracking or advertising cookies, also none from others. In your browser we also keep your preferences (such as language, theme and filters), sessions you logged in the phone app that haven't been sent yet (so they aren't lost offline) and a copy of your dashboard so it loads faster. This stays on your device; you clear it through your browser settings.

How long we keep data

Security

All connections are encrypted (HTTPS). We only store passwords as a hash, sign-in sessions can be revoked on the server (for example when you sign out or set a new password), and the Garmin keys can only be read by the app itself.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, have it corrected or deleted, and receive a copy in a common format. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw any consent at any time. You can do much of this yourself in your profile; for anything else, email info@sportclimbanalytics.com. We respond within one month. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority in your own country.

Age

The service is meant for people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, only use it with permission from a parent or guardian.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update the date at the top. We let you know about important changes.
